The goal is not simply to make everything louder. A useful array gives each device a job: left and right for width, a center device for vocals, rear devices for atmosphere, or a larger speaker for low-end support. Start with the room, not the device count

Before you open a session, decide what you want the room to do. A small desk setup may only need two devices placed left and right of a monitor. More devices do not automatically mean better sound. Small phone speakers can add presence and spatial movement, but they have limited bass and can become harsh when pushed too hard. A center channel can make podcasts, dialogue, and vocal-forward music feel more direct. Side or rear channels can carry spatial detail and room-filling texture. If one device has better low-frequency output, assign it the role that supports bass, but keep expectations realistic.
